Detailed description of Kelly Golf Course, CLOSED 2005
Kelly Golf Course is a Military, 18 hole golf course located in San Antonio, Texas.
Kelly AFB Golf Course was originally built by military employees and volunteers as a 9-hole course in 1969, with a second nine added shortly thereafter.
Water hazards come into play on 14 of 18 holes, and the plush fairways roll to greens that are pretty quick. Players will always remember the huge hill that offers an outstanding view of the city from the 9th and 18th tee boxes.
The design is known for its solid par 3s and difficult finishing holes. #2 measures 200 yards and requires a full carry over water to a green surrounded by sand and more wet stuff. #16 is 190 yards and plays to the smallest green on the course.
#17 plays to 275 yards and plays straight uphill into a green that slopes drastically back towards the fairway.
Blue tees: par-72, 6,935 yards
White tees: par-72, 6,503 yards
Red tees: par-72, 5,481 yards
The course closed in 2005.

I just want to inform you that the Kelly AFB golf course was permanently closed in 2005. It was an excellent course and reason(s) given for the closing was financial and Lackland AFB could not support two courses. I was an employee for the last ten years it was open for play.
